Golden Ears Summit Hike

Summit of Golden Ears

Golden Ears Summit
Golden Ears Provincial Park /  Maple Ridge, BC

Golden Ears summit is one of the favourite local hikes located in Golden Ears Provincial Park in Maple Ridge. Many hikers overnight it at the campgrounds and summit the next day. But it’s possible to do it in a day with a very early start.

Not wanting to do an overnighter, we started right at 7am right when the gates opened at the park. Trailhead starts at the West Canyon trail and the first 5.5km trek up was a breeze. From the Alder Flats, we went through alders and a few obstacles which we had to go over. Soon after 2 kms in to the Alder Flats, we made it to the meadows and views of the summit, Pitt Lake can be seen. We took a quick break at the campgrounds waiting for our other fellow hikers to catch up.

Once we regrouped, we began to ascend up to the summit of Golden Ears. It was pure elevation involving scrambling on semi loose rocks and boulders, climbing up a few steep sections and bushwhacked in narrow sections. Within an hour after leaving the campgrounds, we reached the summit and met with 360° views of surrounding mountians and lake.

MOUNTAIN STATS:
